I’m beginning to believe it’s true that they say you won’t ever forget your first. Of course, your first could mean anything. First day at school, first kiss, first job… OK, you get the idea.
And I certainly couldn’t forget one of the first businesses I covered in my column. It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than three years since covering Dolce and Gelato’s opening in Pensacola’s historic district.
For three years, the funky house on 221 E. Zaragosa St. has been filled with fun, laughter and of course, gelato.
Now, Brenda Mader will be moving her shop to East Hill this spring. The new location will be at 2050 N. 12th Ave. in Pensacola.
“I’ll miss that little shop,” Mader said. “It was so cute. I’ll miss it, but you’re not gonna miss what made it cool. The new shop will be built with exactly what I need and with all of the funkiness that goes along with it.”
Other new businesses:
In addition to the funkiness, it will also feature a concept Mader describes as “sweets and beats,” with Revolver Records selling vinyl inside the new location.
But before the new location opens, in the next few weeks, Mader will be clearing out the old shop in order to make preparations for the new.
“March 17 is my last day for people to get their gelato and go,” Mader said.
However, don’t panic, you can still get Mader’s gelato at local restaurants such as V. Paul’s Italian Ristoante.
Although Mader will miss the old location, she’s excited about the opportunity the new East Hill location will bring.
“Downtown Pensacola is booming,” Mader said. “But everything can’t be downtown. I live in East Hill. There’s tons of schools. Tons of businesses. But there’s not one ice cream shop. And kids want gelato.”
